Infinitives of purpose - explaining your goals with ‘to’

We use ‘to’ to explain our purpose:

  • I went to the shop - Why? - to buy some bread.

  • I’m taking classes - Why? - to improve my English.

Many verbs with a similar meaning (aim / goal / purpose) and also use to:

  • I want to

  • I’m going to

  • I’d like to

  • I plan to

  • I intend to
